City & Guilds 7822 (1 year) Textile Decoration

This course consists of three projects students will be able to:

  • apply basic design ideas to planning and making for the craft
  • plan, prepare and manage the making of craft items to a design brief
  • operate tools and equipment applicable to this craft carefully, safely and effectively
  • make well constructed craft items to a design brief
  • appreciate the contextural influences relating to the craft      

Students will be expected to complete:

  • A metre of fabric decorated using one or more techniques
  • A length of fabric for a stated product selected from the list below
  • A set of 10 samples developed from the Design for Craft ideas and using decorative techniques
  • A folder of work

 

 

 

  City & Guilds 7822 (1year) Fashion And Design Level 2

The course is divided into 3 basic parts:-

  •  A core unit (approximately 15 hours devoted to this) design to give candidates a simple understanding of  colour, using a variety of ideas and materials, including those used in the craft.
  •  Techniques and processes used in dressmaking and garment manufacture. How to design basic garments,   adapt patterns, plan lays for fabric calculation and the recognisation / characteristics of fabrics enabling you to produce a comprehensive folder of techniques and ideas.
  •  Production of 3 garments, e.g. blouse, skirt and waistcoat.

 

Patterns for the garments made can be commercial patterns, traced patterns, made patterns. Basic pattern cutting theory is taught throughout the course.  You will be expected to keep folder and sketchbook of ideas, photographs, fabric samples, visit museums and textile shows. Throughout the year there is continuous assessment of projects with a final assessment by an external assessor.

City & Guilds 7922 (2years) Textile Decoration

The aim of this course is to provide the opportunity for candidates to explore, at some depth, a specific craft in which they will use inspirational source material to design items.  They will develop innovative ideas or practice techniques and acquire complex practical skills, supported by a thorough knowledge of range of materials, processes and techniques involved.

AS Level Textile Design

This textile course consists of two units, one of which is set by the examing body.   You will produce a selection of practical coursework, demonstrating evidence of research, the development of ideas, making skills and critical/ contextual understanding based on an idea, theme, issue or concept and will include preparatory studies leading to a finished textile piece or pieces. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 



 

7922 (2 years) Fashion And Design Level 3

The aim of this couse is to produce a design reference for development into craft. The unit will assess the candidate’s ability to use a range of materials and mediums, based on a personal approach, in order to understand and develop the visual implications of the design process. Candidates will evaluate the completed work, processes and techniques used, to inform future work. 

There are seven outcomes for this unit. The candidate will be able to:

  •  research and select sources of inspiration and develop design ideas
  •  research and use contextual studies – contemporary, historical and cultural 
  •  use a range of materials, mediums and techniques
  •  use a range of styles and sizes of presentation methods
  •  produce and present exploratory and finished design projects
  •  operate tools and equipment safely and effectively
  •  appreciate the application of general design development studies to the craft.
