Fashion courses at Rosetta Art Centre offer you the opportunity to put together a portfolio of work which you can use to progress within the fashion and design field.
You will learn how to make fashion illustrations, pattern cutting, sewing skills, presentation skills, use sewing machines and embroidery stitching amongst other techniques.
You can learn how to make a garment, take accurate measurements, construct a patterm and adapt it to any required style or design.
The courses also include researching other designers to inform and develop your own artistic vision.
Current Courses:
City & Guilds Fashion Award Level 2
Start Date: Week beginning January 9th 2012
Course Length: 10 weeks, one session per week
Session Length: 3 hours
Location: Rosetta Art Centre
Course cost: £140 (£95 non active concessions / £80 full concession)
This course is great for an introduction into working with Textiles. You get to choose one unit of study from the following list:
- Design
- Sampling
- Various pattern cutting pathways (dress block, shirt, trousers, pattern adaptation etc)
- Sewing Samples (seams, darts, sewing machines, pockets, collars)
- Theatre Costume Construction
By the end of the course you will have:
- Learnt about studio practice, including care of tools and health and safety in the fashion studio.
- Researched some fashion designers.
- Learned basic pattern cutting skills, sewing skills.
- Lay cut and sew a complete garment.
Course level and skills required:
This course is open to anybody with an interest in working with fashion, from complete beginners to the more advanced learners who want to improve their skills further. You will be given simple demonstrations supported with hand-outs. No interview is needed to access this course.
When I’ve completed the course, what else can I do to improve my skills?
Rosetta Art Centre offers a more comprehensive courses in Fashion, the Level 2 Certificate, for you to progress onto. This Level 2 Award can contribute towards a Level 2 Certificate, making this the natural progression route.
City & Guilds Fashion Certificate Level 2
Start Date: Week beginning January 9th 2012
Course Length: 36 weeks, two sessions per week
Session Length: 3 hours
Location: Rosetta Art Centre
Course cost: £485 (£293 non active concessions / £185 full concession)
This is a more comprehensive course where you will study four units. There are two manditory units (Design and Sampling) and you can also choose two more from the following list:
- Various pattern cutting pathways (dress block, shirt, trousers, pattern adaptation etc).
- Sewing Samples (seams, darts, sewing machines, pockets, collars).
- Theatre Costume Construction.
By the end of the course you will have:
- Learnt about studio practice, including care of tools and health and safety in the fashion studio.
- Researched a number of fashion designers.
- Developed basic pattern cutting skills, sewing skills and garment construction.
- Developed a portfolio of your fashion work.
