Studying Textiles at Rosetta Art Centre includes experimenting with different materials and techniques, allowing you to learn how to work with various fabrics and textiles.
You will carry out research into other craftmakers and designers to influence and build on, creating a sketchbook of your own ideas and development.
You can experiment with a wide range of techniques including screen printing, mono printing, silk painting, batik, tie dye, pathwork quilting, felt making and three demensional art projects exploring elements of pattern, colour and design.

City & Guilds Textiles Award Level 2
Start Date: Week beginning January 9th 2012
Course Length: 10 weeks, one session per week
Session Length: 3 hours
Location: Rosetta Art Centre
Course cost: £140 (£95 non active concessions / £80 full concession)
This course is great for an introduction into working with Textiles. You get to choose one unit of study from the following list:
- Design
- Sampling
- Textiles: Added Colour
- Textiles: Added Pattern
- Felt Making
- Patchwork & Quilting
- Patchwork, Quilting and Aplique
By the end of the course you will have:
- Learnt about studio practice, including care of tools and health and safety in the textiles studio.
- Developed an understanding of various textiles and the techniques that can be used with them.
- Experimented with some of the various textiles techniques.
Course level and skills required:
This course is open to anybody with an interest in working with textiles, from complete beginners to the more advanced learners who want to improve their skills further. You will be given simple demonstrations supported with hand-outs. No interview is needed to access this course.
When I’ve completed the course, what else can I do to improve my skills?
Rosetta Art Centre offers more advanced courses in Textiles, all awarded by City & Guilds at level 2 or 3, for you to progress onto. The 2011-12 programmes include a one year Certificate course at level 2, or a two year Certificate course at level 3. This Level 2 Award can contribute towards a Level 2 Certificate, making this the natural progression route.
City & Guilds Textiles Certificate Level 2
Start Date: Week beginning January 9th 2012
Course Length: 36 weeks, two sessions per week
Session Length: 3 hours
Location: Rosetta Art Centre
Course cost: £485 (£293 non active concessions / £185 full concession)
This is a more comprehensive course where you will study four units. There are two manditory units (Design and Sampling) and you can also choose two more from the following list:

By the end of the course you will have:

- Experimented with many of the various textiles techniques to the point of developing your own emerging style of practice.
- Researched in greater depth a number of textiles artists and their work to inform your own developing practice.
Course level and skills required:
As this is a more advanced course, a Level 2 qualification is normally required, although in some cases where previous experience at the required level can be demonstrated, this would not be necessary.

Rosetta Art Centre offers a Level 3 Certificate, which the Level 3 Award contributes towards.

Course Length: 72 weeks (two academic years), two sessions per week
Session Length: 3 hours

Course cost: £630 (£546 non active concessions / £330 full concession)
